Make your stay at REBgut, our cultural gastronomy, a special one. We know our home and the lovely Tauber valley very well.
We therefore have put together some particularly worthwhile destinations and sights for excursions and leisure. You can quickly and easily obtain more detailed information and contact us using the links. Have fun and relax!
Landscape shaped by viticulture on the Altenberg mountain
The Altenberg mountain is located right behind the REBgut. Characterized by the vineyards of the former state winery, it offers a lot of variety: extensive, paved hiking trails, meadows with fruit trees, hedges, dry stone walls, romantic vineyard huts, great views of the Tauber Valley and the Oberlauda village. Due to its southern exposure, there is a lot of sun all year round at the Altenberg mountain. With its diverse flora and fauna, it is very popular with guests and locals. You can access the Altenberg mountain directly from the REBgut via our "wine stairway". Athletes like to use it as a fitness station.
Our recommendation for Altenberg mountain: Wine tour with small wine tasting. Register with the local wine guides directly (Tel .: +49 175 6287630) or at the Lauda Tourist Information Office (Tel .: +49 9343 501128).

Wine city of Lauda-Königshofen - with 12 lovely districts
Our REBgut is a few minutes' walk west of the city center of Lauda-Königshofen. Just walk along Rebgutstraße to the city's landmark: the „Obere Tor“. In the historic old town you will find a village museum, a historic locomotive - and two very good ice cream parlors. The Johann August Sack winery is located near the train station. There you can taste wines that grow on the Altenberg mountain. Other attractions in Lauda: the newly renovated indoor swimming pool with sauna, the outdoor swimming pool with a 50-meter pool and 5-meter diving platform, tennis courts (indoors and outdoors). Oberlauda - birthplace of the poet Johann Martin Schleyer
Hiking further up the valley from our REBgut, you will soon reach Oberlauda, a romantic village with 740 inhabitants. The catholic priest and poet Johann Martin Schleyer, the inventor of the constructed language Volapük, was born here in 1831. Special sights in Oberlauda are the largest mill wheel in southern Germany with a diameter of 8.50 meters, the Halbritter Schlössle and the "Lourdes Grotto".
Our recommendation: Hiking around Oberlauda on the „Bonifatiusweg“ (approx. 10 km).
Noble top wines and franconian specialties from Beckstein
20 fruit trees and 1 hectare of vineyards per inhabitant: these are superlatives of the small village of Beckstein, one of the most beautiful wine and recreational areas in the Main-Tauber district and part of Lauda-Königshofen. The Becksteiner Winzer cooperative, founded in 1984, offers top-quality wines that have repeatedly received international, national and regional awards. The private winemaker Hubert Benz and his family are trendsetters and grow their wines naturally and with foresight on the limestone soils of the region. His 1-hour voyage of discovery "Vintasticum®" seduces the senses. In addition, you find good restaurants such as the Becksteiner Rebenhof with its wine lodges. Highlights are various schnapps and fruity liquors, e.g. from the award-winning Braun distillery. Once a year the distilleries open their doors under the motto "Beckstein brennt" („Beckstein ist burning“). A trip to Beckstein is absolutely worthwhile, preferably on foot over the so called „Becksteiner Buckel“ a mountain between Lauda and Beckstein.

Bronnbach Abbey near Wertheim offers various events
The former Cistercian monastery Bronnbach from the 12th century today consists of an approx. 6 hectare large monastery complex. After an eventful history, Bronnbach Abbey has been owned by the Main-Tauber district since 1986. On the one hand, this ensured the structural preservation of the monastery. On the other hand, economic and cultural activities have increased continuously since then. One example is the archive network of the three partners, the state of Baden-Württemberg, the city of Wertheim and the Main-Tauber district. Together they operate a supra-municipal archive, which has since been joined by other municipal archives. Another example are the "Bronnbacher Tours" with a tour of the history of the building and furnishings, tours for children, pilgrim wine tastings and culinary tours on the subjects of herbs, wine and music. In addition, Bronnbach Abbey houses the Taubertal vinotheque and offers numerous cultural events in eight different categories.
Our recommendation: Excursion to the Bronntal Abbey, distance approx. 29 km.
Weikersheim - with renaissance castle and TauberPhilharmonie concert hall
Formerly a residential town with a magnificent castle, today a cultural and enjoyable attraction on the Romantic Road in the middle of the lovely Tauber valley - this is the city of Weikersheim. A very beautiful historic town center, the renaissance castle Weikersheim that emerged from a former moated castle, the TauberPhilharmonie concert hall opened in 2019 and the traditional Kärwe festival are just a few of the reasons for you to pay a visit to this town. There are also numerous events for peaceful international encounters between young musicians of the German section of Jeunesses Musicales in Weikersheim. And of course the star restaurant "Laurentius" on the market square run by Jürgen and Sabine Koch with a "kitchen full of finesse", as the Michelin Guide writes.
Our recommendation: Historical excursion to Weikersheim, distance approx. 25 km.

Relaxed shopping open air at „Wertheim Village“
The so called „Almosenberg“ next to the town of Wertheim close to the A3 motorway is a real Mecca for shopping fans. The Wertheim Village is one of the largest shopping centers in Europe. In over 100 boutiques, men and women can be inspired by some of the most fascinating brands in the world and shop unlimited. With discounts of up to 60 percent, "saving money" here is rather popular. With an app available in the App Store and on Google Play, you can prepare your visit to the Wertheim Village. Further attractions on the Almosenberg in Wertheim are the chocolate and praline factory "ARTofCHOCOLATE" and the mobile home and caravan world operated by GÜMA Wertheim. In the chocolate factory, everything revolves around cocoa delicacies. The most important ingredient is the craftsmanship of the house chocolatiers. Such enjoyment should not be withheld from your own senses. GÜMA Wertheim took over the operation of Erwin-Hymer-World in spring 2020. Campers, caravans and a complete world of accessories from well-known manufacturers are presented on over 17,000 square meters. Rothenburg ob der Tauber - the entire city is a lively museum
The very well-preserved medieval old town, which has been restored with constant care, amazes tourists from all over the world. The impressive view over the Tauber valley and a stroll through the numerous sights: this is Rothenburg ob der Tauber. Rothenburg is world-famous as THE romantic city of Germany. As one of the TOP sights in "original Rothenburg", we particularly recommend the somewhat dusty but extensive crime museum and largest museum for legal studies in Europe. Käthe Wohlfahrt's Christmas Museum also leaves lasting impressions with a Christmas market all year round. But there is also the city's landmark, the Plönlein, and much, much more to explore.
Our city tip for you: Treat yourself with a trip to Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Distance approx. 53 km (can also be done by bike or e-bike).

Bad Mergentheim: Residence castle and extremely rare animals such as packs of wolves at the wildlife park
The wildlife park in bad Mergentheim, founded around 40 years ago, is one of the largest animal parks in Europe with over 70 species. On over 35 hectares there are lovely demonstrations of allkinds of animals, great playgrounds for children with play farm and petting zoo and what is probably the largest wolf pack in Europe. There are also exciting experiences in the wildlife park to really switch off from everyday working life, such as forest bathing, fire cooking, sawing with a toothed saw - to name just a few. The program changes constantly and can be viewed online.
The city of Bad Mergentheim is always worth a visit especially the residential palace with the Deutschordens-Museum and the well-tended spa gardens.
Our excursion tip: zoo and city of Bad Mergentheim, distance approx. 16 km.
